The Pyramid of Success
John Wooden
25 blocks
Block 1: Industriousness
"There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning."
This means that if you dont ctr you wont be succeesful . This man is beautiful inside and out. he has stated he doesnt really agree with the pyrimd well on some. he is great he know what equalily is and i will stand by them. he works really hard. industrusness hes very good .
Block 2: Enthusiasm
"It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins."
Enthusiasm is very useful when you play a sport or try anything that is competitive because you will be eager to go out there and give it your best shot. An example of enthusiasm is if your teacher says that there will be a test next class. If you are enthusiastic and want to take it, you will study eagerly and when it comes to the test you will pass because you are looking forward to it and you studied.
Block 3: Friendship
"Comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."
Also, when you have friends, they might be able to hook you up with certain things. If you want to get a job, one of your friends might know someone who is hiring. If you need help on an assignment, you can depend on a friend. But, friendships aren't a one way thing, you will also have to there when your friends need you.
Block 4: Loyalty
"To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."
One way to be loyal to yourself is by not doing anything that will damage your body such as smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or getting tattoos. Being loyal to yourself means getting yourself the best education you can and doing what's right. Being loyal means choosing what is best for you and those around you. Being loyal is imortant because it will help you build relationships which are benificial if you ever need help with anything because you can depend on those who can depend on you.
Block 5: Cooperation
"With all levels of your co-workers. Listen if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way. "
Cooperation skills can be develpoed in school when you cooperate with the other students to complete a group assignment. Another example of cooperation is when you are playing a sport. Teamwork is all about cooperation when you are trying to win.
Block 6: Ambition (For noble goals)
An example of this is when can be when you are applying for a job and have an interview. When you show your confidence you seem like a great candidate for the position because you show that you are a person who can get the job done. Being confident can also make you seem like an important person with lots of things happening in your life.
Reflection: These 10 Keys will help you be successful because they give you all the guide lines on what you should do to be the best you. All of the 10 rules start with a C.
Block 7: Self-Control
"Practice self disipline and keep emotions under control. Good judgement and common sense are essential."
Self control is very necessary because it is unprofessional to let your emotions out when you are conducting business. An example of this can be when you are at school making a presentation. You have to remember that you have to do the best you can and not emotions play a role in your presentation because if you get mad a t a comment or react on it based on emotion it will make you look bad. You have to have control over yourself because if you don't, you won't go far in life. Self-control is one of the first skills you should develop because self-control will show you what you can and can't handle.
Block 8: Alertness
"Be observing constantly. Stay open-minded. Be eager to learn and improve."
If you are never alert then you will not be prepared when the situation calls for it. An example of when alertness can play a role is when you are trying to see who is fake and who is not when making friends. If you can't catch it when they show they are fake and you aren't aware to know you will be setting yourself up. Another example of alertness is when there is something bad that's about to happen like a car accident
Block 9: Initiative
"Cultivate the ability to make decisions and think alone. Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it."
. An example of this is if you try out for a sport in school. If you join you can't just leave whenever you want, you need to see it out to the end, win or lose. Having initiative is an important skill to develop because it is what will allow you to have the edge on others who might compete against you for the same achievement. Another example where you might need to show initiative is when you go on a protest or strike. You need to make sure the audience gets your message and knows what you're talking about.
Block 10: Intentness
"Set a realistic goal. Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptations and being determined and persistent."
To have intentness means you are focused on your goals. When you have your mind set on a specific objective you want to accomplish. This is an important building block on the pyramid block of success. An example where this building block would be used would be for a competitive player. They will have their mind set on just winning. But this skill should not be exaggerated and you shouldn't be selfish. You should have your mind set on your goals but you shouldn't bring others down to accomplish yours.
Block 11: Sincerity (keeps friends)
This means that you keep old connections with friends you have made over time. This is an important building block because you need to keep old friendships active because you don't know when you might need some help or a favor to call.
Block 12: Adaptability (to any situation)
I think sometimes its hard to adjust to new things but sometimes its just better. An example of adaptability would be when you think quickly to respond to sudden changes in circumstances or when you keeping calm during difficult times. The quote is telling you how adaptability is the key to survival and you need it in your life. You need to understand and learn what it takes to adapt to a new environment. I will apply this new block into my daily life because I can try to get used to new things around me.
Block 13: Condition
"Mental-Moral-Physical. Rest, exercise and diet must be considered. Moderation must be practiced. Dissipation must be eliminated."
This is a important skill to learn because when you are conditioned you don't have to really think about the thing you are conditioned to do. An example of this can be, doing your homework as soon as you get home. Being conditioned will keep you on track because it is almost like an automatic response to do whatever you are conditioned to do.
Block 14: Skill
"A knowledge of and the ability to properly and quickly execute the fundamentals. Be prepared and cover every little detail."
An example of this is when you are taking a test. When you have studied and learned the skill, you will have an advantage on the test. Another example of this is when playing a sport. The one who has learned the skill the most is most likely the one who has practiced more.
Block 15: Team Spirit
"A genuine consideration for others. An eagerness to sacrifice personal interests of glory for the welfare of all."
An example of team spirit is when you are playing a sport in school. If you want to show team spirit, you should be the one cheering the team up and helping them to improve. Another example is you putting yourself before the team so everyone can go up. This is a selfless act which will gain you respect from others. Being selfless for the team is one of the strongest actions you can act out that will earn you respect from the rest of the team.
Block 16: Honesty (In thought and Action)
"Honesty is the best policy." - Ben Franklin
To be honest means to tell the truth at all time. This does not mean to be mean to everyone and say all the things that come to mind. You should be honest when you are asked for your opinion. If you see someone do something bad, you should do what's right and be honest about what happened.
Block 17: Resourcefulness (Proper Judgment)
"Make the most out of what you have." (Anonymous)
When you are resourceful, it means that use what is given to you and make the most of it. This skill is one that is sometimes learned at a young age when some people have to grow up with minimum resources. Someone who is resourceful doesn't let anything go to waste. An example of being resourceful is when you use your time properly and don't waste it.
Block 18: Poise
"Just being yourself. Being at ease in any situation."
When you are poise you are calm and are handling a situation in life that is going well. An example of poise is when you are taking or preparing for a test but you aren't stressing because you know all the criteria and you've been studying. Another example of being poise is when you been having a stressful day but you don't allow that to keep you down or change your mood.
Block 19: Confidence
"Thorough preparation breeds confidence" Gerald Bell in
When you have confidence, you don't show any fear and you are not nervous. When you are confident, you feel certain about something. Confidence is something really looked for in jobs that require speeches or anything that is professional. Confidence is when you believe in yourself and over come your fear. "The Carolina Way"
Block 20: Reliability (creates respect)
An example of this would be when your parents ask you to get good grades and you actually do it by doing your homework, asking questions, and always passing you test'quizzes. The quotes explains how reliability is the first step towards trust. You can be success when someone can trust you with something because you are a reliable person. I can apply this block into my daily life by always doing well in my studies and performing well in all the test I take
Block 21: Fight (determined effort)
When I say fight as one of the blocks I don't mean it in the sense of fighting with someone to cause physical harm but to put on a challenge to prove or show you point on something. Another way that the word fight could be seen as is when you are going through a rough time but you have to fight through it and get better.
Block 22: Competitive Greatness
" Be at your best when your best is needed. Enjoyment of a difficult challenge."
When you are competitive you are showing that you are giving effort to complete your objective. Being competitive is one way to show how hard you are willing to work to outshine others.
Block 23: Integrity (purity of intention)
When you have integrity you have self moral principals and are an honest person. Integrity means you have set standards for yourself and what to keep a clean image of yourself. If no one had integrity then they would have no real respect themselves An example of this could be anyone. When a person lies, their integrity can be turned into something meaningless since their word is meaningless.
Block 25: Patience
"Good things take time"
Having patience is an important building block in the pyramid of success because without patience, you wouldn't be able to wait for the good things in life to happen and you won't have an enjoyable life. This can come into hand in a real life situation, such as when you are waiting in line for something. Someone who is inpatient wouldn't be able to wait in line for a long time without getting frustrated. When you are patient, you are able to enjoy life better knowing you have gotten everything you need by being patient and waiting your turn. Another example of patience is life itself. Many of the things we earn has to deal with patience. We go to college because we know that if we are patience and study rather than finding a job right out of high school, then we could get an even better career later once you've spent more time at school.
